Your students want (and need) you to stop trying to train in only the way YOU like to learn… you need to incorporate all four learning styles to be Inclusive. Use our proven 15-Step Recipe to reach every learner every time.
This is Part 3 of a 3-part series on becoming a better trainer through Universal Learning Transfer Maximization (ULTM).
- Part 1 – Case Study: #1 Reason For Under-Performing Trainees
- Part 2 – How To Reach All Four Learning Styles Simultaneously
- Part 3 – [You Are Here] Train The Way They Learn
We flipped the model on its head.
And it worked…
If you have even the slightest notion that as long as you understand the content and can “explain the steps” (or other what we call “Step” learning style on our LS assessment)…
…that in order to be a good trainer or to be any kind of a masterful teacher (the kind that’s catered to your natural learning style)…
…then you’ve likely been falling for a BIG LIE.
Don’t worry…we fell for it too.
We tried it their way. We learned dozens of “trainer techniques” (turning cartwheels, using power point more effectively etc.)…they crashed and burned.
AND what we’ve perfected over the years is UNIVERSAL but not one size fits all…So how then?
…instead of copying someone else’s style and hoping for their success, we figured out how to teach to all the authentic styles…
…and reach ALL STYLES for SUCCESS or what we call Universal Learning Transfer Maximization (ULTM).
For over a decade now we’ve been in the business of “training” trainers to ULTM to REACH all learning styles…
The results with LS are almost instantaneous…like flipping a switch.
Here’s another big thing for when you address a classroom…
NOTE: This. Changes. Everything.
This BIG IDEA changes the game on how you create lesson plans, plan to engage and deliver your content, your class management and the all too often under-played post-game analysis…
Whether you have a “traditional” or “non-traditional” learning style (whether you are at the right of the quadrant or the left), this applies.
I get into detail on how this plays out on the learning styles quadrant in this video.
Let’s take a bird’s eye view…
Traditional Trainers and Teachers
This is where students can have a problem…
…”traditional” trainers and teachers often think everything went well and then it doesn’t happen because they had no idea what the students really needed.
Or they crash and burn and think that they hate teaching…
I have seen really great students develop a fear of teaching.

A lot of times it’s because they didn’t prepare for the non-traditional students, either the lesson, the activities, or they got bad feedback or no response at all.
Non-Traditional Trainers and Teachers
Non-traditional trainers and teachers may think they have crashed and burned, but they really didn’t…
…so they don’t follow through, continue the needed teaching, or they don’t take the next step because they thought they were so terrible.
For both traditional and non-traditional trainers…they don’t have built in ways to gauge if it’s going well or not.
(NOTE: Not sure which one you are? You can find out by taking the 5-minute Learning Styles quiz and become the all-inclusive trainer have your students signing your praises — including the FREE video assessment we use to be more inclusive and EFFECTIVE. Once you’ve taken the test, you need to focus on the piece of having more happiness, success and freedom for your students when you teach them.
Half of you will overcome your learning style to get to this level of success in the classroom. You make the connection with everybody you teach and own it…
…the other half will learn to prepare to meet non-traditional student needs, authentically AND inclusively…
That’s a big piece.
And when you are authentic AND inclusive, you are also in a space where you are able to genuinely reach all of your audience…
…which means that you are paying attention to your audience, not just focused on what works for you.
It helps you to have a broader perspective (some call this being student centered or servant-like teaching).
You need to NOT just focus on where you are, but where THEY are.
And not just some of their needs…
…not just the 25% that have the same style as you…
…but all the remaining 75% as well so you can teach them what you want to teach them.
When you are being really genuine AND inclusive, you will automatically reach more of your audience…
…especially if it’s a big concept. Even in concepts that are hard to understand, you want to reach every single person.
So you need to know all these quadrants well enough to know where you are and where they are…
