This is Part 3 of a 3-part series on becoming a better trainer by being more authentic.
- Part 1 – [Case Study] #1 Reason Why People BOMB With Public Speaking
- Part 2 – How To Be A More Authentic Speaker
- Part 3 –[You are Here] Stop Trying To Be Tony Robbins
We flipped the model on its head.
And it worked.
If you have even the slightest notion that the only truly great speakers are of the likes of Tony Robbins (or other what we call “PERFORMERS” style on our FIPE assessment)…
…that in order to be good or to be any kind of a masterful public speaker (the kind that’s not your natural presentation personality style)…
…then you’ve likely been falling for a BIG LIE.
Don’t worry…we fell for it too.
We tried it their way. We learned dozens of “performer techniques” (turning cartwheels, etc.)…they crashed and burned.
What we’ve perfected over the years is not a one size fits all…
…instead of copying someone else’s style and hoping for their success, we figured out how to own our authentic styles…
…and find OUR STYLE of SUCCESS.
For over a decade now we’ve been in the business of “training” speakers in THEIR own styles…
The results with FIPE are almost instantaneous…like flipping a switch.
Here’s how we do it…
Here’s another big thing for when you first get up on stage…This. Changes. Everything.
You know how there’s a whole bunch of things you can do to create and prepare a presentation before you are going to speak?
This BIG IDEA changes the game on how you create presentations, plan to execute talks, your delivery and the all too often under-played post-game analysis…
Whether you have an under-confident or over-confident style (whether you are at the top of the quadrant or the bottom), this applies.
I get into detail on how this plays out on the presentation personality quadrant in this video.
Let’s take a bird’s eye view…
Over-Confidence
This is where over-confidence can have a problem…
…overconfident speakers often think everything went well and then it doesn’t happen because they had no idea what the audience really needed.
Or they crash and burn and think that they hate public speaking…
I have seen really confident people develop a fear.
Why?
A lot of times it’s because they didn’t prepare, either the creation, the menu, or they got bad feedback or no response at all.
Under-Confidence
Under-confident speakers may think they have crashed and burned, but they really didn’t…
…so they don’t follow through, close the deal, or they don’t take the next step because they thought they were so terrible.
For both under and over-confident speakers…they don’t have built in ways to gauge if it’s going well or not.
(NOTE: Not sure which one you are? You can find out by taking the 5-minute Presentation Personality quiz and become the genuine presenter your audience loves in any industry or vertical — including the FREE video assessment we use to be more genuine and AUTHENTIC. Once you’ve taken the test, you need to focus on the piece of having more happiness for yourself when you attempt public speaking.
Half of you will overcome nerves to get to this level of success in the spot light. You make the connection with who you are and own it…
…the other half will learn to prepare to meet audience needs, authentically…
That’s a big piece.
And when you are authentic, you are also in a space where you are able to genuinely connect with your audience…
…which means that you are paying attention to your audience, not just focused on what works for you.
It helps you to have a broader perspective (some call this being audience centered or servant-like leadership).
You need to NOT just focus on where you are, but where THEY are.
And not just some of their needs…
…not just the 25% that have the same style as you…
…but all the remaining 75% as well so you can lead them where you want to take them.
When you are being really genuine, you will automatically connect with more of your audience…
…especially if it’s a big presentation. Even in big presentations, you want to connect with every single person.
So you need to know all these quadrants well enough to know where you are and where they are…
That’s why we created Archetype…to teach you how to meet THEIR needs with a 9-Step Recipe to Unlock the Power of Your Natural Presentation Style by clicking here.
