How many of you out there have conquered your fear of public speaking to only be met with the next challenge of not being able to take the heat when questions are being hurled at you by your audience.
Answering questions like a pro can be a bit difficult to grasp at first but it is possible!
Trust me, It took me a while but I got the hang of it.
I had many issues with receiving questions from my audience members in the past.
The biggest issue I had was not being able to process the information thrown my way fast enough.
Let me give you an example…
I have never considered myself a person with a silver tongue who can speak a bunch of nonsense and have people eat it up. Instead I have always seen myself as someone who provides valuable information, be it about myself or a topic I am discussing.
You see I am more of a research learner…
My brain works differently than others. It takes me more time to absorb information and process it. Now that doesn’t mean I am not intelligent, it just means that my brain looks at things from many different angles and really analyzes everything before coming to a conclusion.
So what’s the down side of that…
In general I would say there is no downside. I like the fact that I analyze things and really focus my attention on what is being asked instead of just rambling off and spewing out what sounds “cool” or “fascinating”.
But when it comes to answering questions in front of a crowd, my way of processing information can be a nightmare.
Why you ask?
Simple…Nerves!
While I am processing the question that was asked by an audience member, something else is happening inside my head. I start to get panicky and start asking myself these questions…”Am I taking too long to answer?”, “Did I answer their question correctly?”, “Do I look like someone who is not an expert in their field?” and so on.
As you can imagine this starts a snowball effect. What started off as something in my head transforms into something very physical…sweaty palms, dry mouth, quivering voice…you name it!
All this happening while being the center of attention!
Not a good place to be.
There is a solution…
Luckily there is a way to avoid all this.
